What does the word "Boudoir" mean?

The word "Boudoir" (boo'dwa) noun is a French word for a lady's private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room.

Boudoir Photography is an ever growing trend in wedding, bridal and portrait photography, the photographs are sexy, artistic and tasteful portraits, usually taken wearing lingerie, underwear and other revealing outfits and given as a gift from a girl to her partner, husband, or to-be groom. However, boudoir photography is not just about the giving of images to a partner or lover, they can be just for you, it's about bringing out your sexy side, which can often boost your own self confidence in who you are as a woman.

These are a perfect "for his eyes only" wedding day gift for a groom, but you don't need to be a bride to do this. You can do boudoir photography if you are not married or even if you are long term married as a way to re-kindle some sparkle back into your relationship.

Many women still consider boudoir photography as something to be discussed behind closed doors only with their very close friends. But it needs to come out in the open, boudoir photography is about sharing the beauty that is in every woman. It is an empowering experience for women to take pride in themselves and chose to be sexy. Perhaps you have a milestone that you would like to celebrate? Getting married, just quit your job, pregnant, just had a baby, retired, divorced or just about anything really. Tasteful intimate photographs bring a special feeling to both the woman and the lucky person who receives them.

A revealing boudoir photography session simply means a way to unveil the different sides of you through an image. You are able to highlight parts of your body that you like and hide the ones that you do not.

Boudoir photography is not limited to dress sizes, a fuller figure woman can look amazingly sexy in the correct pose. And if you still have any specific ‘details’ about yourself that you may be  self conscious about, with your permission, I will undertake some subtle yet distinctive post shoot photo-shop processing and editing to make you look even more amazing...

The shoot should take no more than 3-4 hours and will include a full make up session by a qualified make-up artist, and if you’ve never had a professional photoshoot before, I can assure you the combination of professional make-up, professional hair & professional photographer will make you look more amazing than you ever thought possible. It’s a chance to be truly glamorous for a day. How many of you do your hair and makeup and put on pretty things the way we would REALLY like to? This is your chance to be as girly as you want to be.

About Me…

I wouldn’t expect you to book an intimate shoot with me, without me first introducing myself…

I live just north of Aberdeen, and I am happy to travel where required for a shoot. I am 40 years old, happily married with one daughter and have a happy, fun loving, outgoing personality.

Photography is not yet my full-time career, but I have been doing photography now for over 25 years and have run this as a business for approx 6 years now.

I am a licentiate member of the British Professional Photographers Association, a licentiate member of the Society of Nature and Wildlife Photographers, and I was Environmental Category Winner in the 2010 Scottish Nature Photography Awards and have had images published in various magazines and national newspapers.

Frequently Asked Questions

May I bring a friend/family member with me?

“Yes, if you wish to, there will be a hair/make up artist present anyway, but you are more than welcome to bring a friend along, I will always treat you with the upmost respect to ensure the best images from the shoot “

What selection of clothing/underwear do I need to bring?

“This would vary with the package option you choose, I would suggest several sets of lingerie, a man’s shirt always makes for a good image.”

If required, I have a range of lingerie and corsets available in a selection of sizes, please advise your size and I will see what I have to suit. I also have a range of props that make for a more interesting and fun image, including faux fur wraps, fascinators, venetian masks, lace parasols and feather boas.

How long will the shoot take?

“Varying between 3 to 5 hours depending on the package option chosen. The times given in the package lists are estimated, they aren’t set in stone..!! The shoot will continue until all parties are happy when the required shots have been taken.”

Where will the shoot be held?

“Your own house would be the preferred option. I always find clients are more comfortable and relaxed in the familiar surroundings of their own home, and this is reflected in the images produced, however if this is not an option for you, alternative options can be looked at, at minimal cost.“

What is the format for the day?

“Initially we will all sit down for a tea/coffee (or a glass of champagne if you wish) with the make-up artist and discuss the day, the clothing option, some of the intended shots and some basic do’s and don’ts for during the shoot. I will then leave you with the hair/make-up artist to do their magic and I will set up any additional lighting I feel the situation requires. When you are finished with the make-up and changed into the first outfit, the shoot will begin. The times given in the package lists are estimated, they are not set in stone..!! The shoot will continue until all parties are happy, when the required shots have been taken.” 

Will my images be used online or for marketing purposes?

“Your images will never be used for marketing purposes. They are your imitate images and I will guarantee your complete confidentiality. If during a shoot we obtain a particularly unique image which I would like to use for advertising purposes, I will first seek your written consent to do so.

I work fulltime, what times are available for the shoot?

“Natural lighting is the most preferred and complimentary method of lighting for a boudoir shoot, however I always carry portable studio lighting to fill in and compliment where natural light is limited.  A shoot can be arranged for almost anytime, midweek or weekends, during the day or during an evening at a mutually agreeable time.”  

Can you “Photoshop” me to make me look better?

Yes, I have the latest industry editing software, this will be used discreetly  to ensure you look your absolute best in the final images.

Platinum Package - (5 hours) £550

Full professional Hair & Make-up (Approx 1 Hour) followed by 4 hours shoot including 4-5 changes of lingerie each taken with several different poses, make-up touchups as required throughout the session.
Price includes:

8”x10” framed Desk Print
DVD of high resolution images from the shoot for you to keep.

Gold Package - (4 Hours) £450

Full professional Hair & Make-up (Approx 1 Hour) followed by 3 hours shoot including 3 changes of lingerie each taken with several different poses, make-up touchups as required throughout the session.

7”x5.5” Classic Coffee Table Book with 20 spreads of photographs

Silver Package - (3 Hours) - £350

Full professional Hair & Make-up (Approx 1 Hour) followed by 2 hours shoot including 2 changes of lingerie each taken with several different poses, make-up touchups as required throughout the session.
